Export a mix
Choose File ▸ Export Mix… (⌘E). Pick a preset, adjust if you like, click OK, and choose where to save. If a file with that name exists you are asked before it is replaced. In the App Store version, exporting needs the free trial or a subscription; see Subscription and free trial.
To export just one track, right-click it and choose Export Track…, or use Track ▸ Export Track…. To send every track separately to a mixing service, see Export Multitrack Stems.
Presets
Encoding at the top of the sheet picks a preset. Changing any setting below switches it to Custom.
| Preset | What it makes |
|---|---|
| Podcast | Mono MP3 at 64 kbps, 44.1 kHz, normalized to −16 LUFS with a limiter, chapters included. The one most shows want. |
| High Quality | Stereo MP3 at 256 kbps, 44.1 kHz, with a limiter as a ceiling and chapters. No loudness change. |
| Medium Quality | Stereo MP3 at 128 kbps, otherwise like High Quality. |
| Low Quality | Mono MP3 at 64 kbps, 22.05 kHz, with a limiter ceiling and chapters. |
To keep your own, turn on Save configuration, name it, and it appears in the list. Set as Default makes the sheet open on it.
The settings
- Format: WAV, MP3, AAC (.m4a), Apple Lossless (.m4a), AIFF or FLAC.
- Channels: mono, stereo or joint stereo. Mono is half the size and is what most spoken-word shows publish.
- Bitrate: for MP3 and AAC. Lossless formats ignore it.
- Bit depth: for WAV and AIFF: 16-bit, 24-bit or 32-bit float.
- Samplerate: No conversion keeps the project’s rate, or choose one.
- Loudness: No normalization, or a target of −14, −16, −18, −23 or −24 LUFS. −16 LUFS is the usual podcast target. PodEditor measures the finished mix and sets its level to reach the target.
- Peak ceiling and Limiter: the highest true peak allowed, from −0.5 to −3 dBTP (−1 by default). With the limiter on, peaks are held under the ceiling whatever the loudness target asks for, so nothing clips. Turn the limiter off only if something later in your chain handles peaks.
- Export selection only: exports just the in/out range (I and O) instead of the whole project. It appears when there is a range.
- Add Chapters: writes your chapters into an MP3. Only MP3 can carry them. See Markers and chapters.
What to expect
- The export reflects the project as it was when you pressed OK. Edits you make while it runs are not in that file.
- If an effect rings out after your last clip, up to five seconds of it is included so it is not cut off; chapters and episode length still stop where your audio does.
- If audio is missing from the project, or an effect could not load, PodEditor says so when the export finishes, rather than reporting a clean export.
- Exporting never changes your project or your original audio.
