Subscription and free trial

The App Store version of PodEditor is a yearly subscription with a 14-day free trial. This page says what you get, what happens if you stop, and where to find each control. The Terms of Use have the full legal wording.

What is free, and what needs a subscription

Always free, with or without a subscription:

  • Opening, playing and saving projects
  • Editing: cutting, moving, leveling, ducking, markers and chapters
  • Importing audio and Hindenburg sessions

Needs the free trial or a subscription:

  • Exporting: a mix, a single track, or multitrack stems
  • Recording onto a track

If you try one of these without access, PodEditor shows the subscription sheet instead. It never holds your projects hostage: a project you made while subscribed opens, plays and saves the same way after the subscription ends. Nothing is deleted.

The free trial

New subscribers get 14 days free. Each Apple Account can use the trial once. If you do not cancel at least 24 hours before it ends, Apple charges the subscription price and it renews each year until you cancel. The price shown in the subscription sheet is the one that applies to you; in the United States it is US$49.99 per year.

Apple handles the payment, your Apple Account and the billing records. PodEditor learns whether you are subscribed by asking Apple’s App Store services on your Mac. See the Privacy Policy.

Subscribe, restore or cancel

  • Subscribe: choose PodEditor ▸ Subscription…, or Settings ▸ Account, or just try to export or record and the sheet appears.
  • Restore on another Mac or after reinstalling: open Settings ▸ Account and click Restore Purchases. Use the same Apple Account you subscribed with.
  • Cancel or change plan: Settings ▸ Account ▸ Manage Subscription… opens your Apple subscriptions. You keep access until the end of the period you paid for.
  • Refunds are handled by Apple, not by PodEditor.

Settings ▸ Account also says in plain words what state you are in, such as whether a trial is running and when it ends.

Beta builds

  • TestFlight builds have subscriptions turned off, so everything works. Apple expires a TestFlight build 90 days after it was uploaded.
  • The download from podeditor.app is a free beta with everything unlocked. It stops working about 90 days after it was built and updates itself first if you let it (PodEditor ▸ Check for Updates…).

Neither has the Subscription… menu item, since there is nothing to buy.

If something is wrong

If you subscribed and PodEditor still asks you to, click Restore Purchases first. If that does not help, email hello@podeditor.app with the build line from PodEditor ▸ About PodEditor.
