Requirements and troubleshooting
System requirements
- macOS 15 or later.
- A Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or newer). PodEditor does not run on Intel Macs.
- Disk space for your projects. Each project keeps a converted copy of its audio, so an hour-long multitrack episode is a few hundred megabytes to a few gigabytes.
- Long episodes export fastest with plenty of free memory. A two-hour project exports on an 8 GB Mac but uses more than that; close other large apps first.
Playback and waveforms
A waveform is missing or looks wrong. Select the track and choose Track ▸ Rebuild Waveform. It redraws that track’s waveform from the audio, and changes nothing else. PodEditor already rebuilds any waveform that is missing or out of date when it opens a project.
Audio from a file you imported stops playing, or imported audio is silent, after a long session. This is a known problem we are still tracking down. Save, quit PodEditor and open the project again; playback works afterward. If you can, tell us what you had done first: hello@podeditor.app.
A clip says its audio is missing. The project cannot find a converted audio file inside it. This usually means the project was copied without part of its package. Copy the whole .podproj. To point a clip at a replacement file, open the Info panel (⌥I) and click Locate… next to the file marked missing.
It plays but I cannot hear it. Check Settings ▸ Audio ▸ Output device. A device that was unplugged leaves it on a device that is not there; choose Follow the System.
Recording
See Recording. The usual fixes are the microphone permission (System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Microphone), choosing a wired or USB input rather than a Bluetooth headset, and arming a track first.
Plug-ins
- A plug-in that is not installed on this Mac shows as missing and is skipped. Install it again and reopen the project.
- A third-party plug-in may bring up a macOS security prompt the first time. See Effects and leveling.
Exporting
- Export asks you to subscribe. In the App Store version, exporting and recording need the free trial or a subscription. Open Settings ▸ Account and click Restore Purchases if you already subscribed. See Subscription and free trial.
- The export says audio or an effect was missing. Check the project for missing clips and for plug-ins that are not installed, then export again.
- A file I expected is not where I looked. The save window picks the place, and PodEditor shows the finished file when it is done.
Projects in iCloud Drive
Opening a project that is still downloading shows a progress window. Wait for it, or cancel and open it when you are online. See Projects, saving and recovery.
The beta download has expired
The free download from podeditor.app stops working about 90 days after it was built. Choose Download Latest in the alert and install the new one. A copy that checks for updates (PodEditor ▸ Check for Updates…) updates itself before then.
Send a report
Choose Help ▸ Send Feedback…. It opens an email to hello@podeditor.app already filled in with your PodEditor version, which is the first thing needed to look into a problem. Write what you did, what you expected and what happened. PodEditor never sends anything by itself; the email is yours to edit and send.
If PodEditor quit unexpectedly, choose Help ▸ Reveal Crash Reports in Finder, and attach the newest PodEditor report to your email. The report is made by macOS and you choose whether to send it.
Help ▸ Visit PodEditor Support opens the support page.
